History

 

1994- The Whyte Design Team is formed and we start working on a full suspension design for mountain bikes, led by Jon Whyte, ex Benetton Formula 1 design engineer.

1995- The design is licensed to Marin and goes into production.

1997- A bike we designed makes history by becoming the first full suspension bike to win a pro-elite XC race. The rider was Paul Lasenby.

1998- We make history again by winning the UK XC Pro-Elite Championship with a full suspension bike.

1999- A Whyte designed bike wins the UK National Championships.

2000- The Whyte brand is formed and we launch the unique and critically acclaimed PRST-1, described by the UK press as “Genuinely stunning”. Another publication claimed “nothing matches the all round performance of this bike.”

2002- Our PRST – 1 becomes the UK’s best selling high-end suspension bike.

2004- We break new ground with the genre-defining Whyte 46, an adjustable travel, lightweight full suspension bike with six inches of adjustable travel front and rear. It scores a perfect 10 and receives highest placed full suspension bike in the Bike of Year Awards.

2005- After 18 months development our first hardtail, the 19 is launched. It has a step-less adjustable rear dropout that allows the geometry to be tuned to suit the rider and trail conditions.

2006- We launch the Whyte E-5, described by What Mountain Bike magazine as “a structural masterpiece, amazingly stiff for its weight” and winning a coveted WMB Gold Award.

2009- Our first Carbon hardtail, the 19C is launched and described by What Mountain Bike Magazine as “probably the most enjoyable 20lb bike we have ever tested.”

2011- The Whyte 146 arrives. Conceived as the ultimate “do it all” bike is offers lightweight, full carbon construction and genuine All Mountain performance.

We launch our first 29er and a full range of 700c urban and all terrain bikes.

2012- The Whyte 146S is awarded “Best Long Travel Trail Bike” in the UK bike of the year awards.

We launch our first drop bar bikes – our Cross series.

2013- Our T-129 and M-109 29er suspension platforms arrive along with our first XC hardtails, the X8 and X29 series. The T-129 is awarded ‘Trail Bike of the Year” by What Mountain Bike Magazine.

2014- 650b replaces 26” in our line, with positive effect. The new 905 Trail hardtail is described by MBR magazine as “Simply amazing” and “perfect 650b trail hardtail”
